Sitting on a Throne Deciding our Fate over a Chalice of Mead
I don’t know if it was being an atheist for so many years, or my love of science, but when I worship the God and Goddess, I find it difficult to picture them as life forms that are sitting on their thrones, hanging out, deciding our future with their buddies over a glass of mead! I don’t know, I just can’t envision that, it seems way too surreal for me.
When I worship the deities, I have to connect with them first…and I gotta tell you, there are a lot of them out there! To connect with a deity, I envision them as the energy that I’m trying to connect with. I think of our universal connection to everyone and everything like an invisible spider web of energy that connects us to each other, and each connection has a vibration to a certain type of energy. When we perform a ritual, for example, we use tools and visualization that pertains to a certain goal. So, let’s say we’re going to perform a hunting ritual; we would grab some protection stones (stones that are associated with protection energy), maybe a fish charm for abundance and let’s say…light a green candle for prosperity and pray to the Roman Goddess of the Hunt, Diana. We have now just associated many different items with the goal of a successful hunt! Why? The reason for this, is to gather as much energy that is associated with our goal and manipulate the energy in such a way, that when we send this energy out into the universe, it becomes an aid in achieving the goal that we are seeking!
There is no right or wrong way to determine what ‘deity’ actually is, everyone’s ideas are different, the goal is to find a way of worship that not only works for you, but is comfortable as well. In order for me to connect to a deity, I study the mythology that lies behind the god/goddess, I read all the stories that I can find and determine what form of energy that this particular deity vibrates to. Once I have determined the energy that encompasses the mythology, I envision the deity as the dominate mass of this energy. The energy of the deity fingers off into the lesser forms of energy, such as the stones, candle colors and scents, by using these lesser forms of vibrating energy we are creating reinforcements to the dominate energy that we are connecting with, in this case, the energy that we call Diana.
Connecting with Deity, can be confusing at first, especially if we aren’t sure what deity means to us! Breaking it all down, can make it easier to understand, hence easier to connect with.
